ontwerpduo—fun studio

Tineke Beunders and Nathan Wierink are ontwerpduo . Former students of the Design Academy Eindhoven , they’re part of the Dutch domination of design right now. Tufted-Walnut Martha Washington Chair

This is a chair that I built a few years ago in a Chair Design class at the University of Cincinnati School of Design. It consists of two massive Walnut glue-ups connected by a heavy-duty finger joint. I created a 3D file for the tufting effect, and had the blocks cut on the schools new CNC Router. The buttons were made by hand and applied y hand. The base and arm supports are poplar wrapped in hand dyed leather to complete the material reversal

Walnut Fireplace Mantel and panels

This is a Walnut mantle that I recently completed. It is a little over 9’ wide and stands about 6’ tall at the top of the mantel. The mantel is 13” deep. The center panel is again a Walnut Burl veneer with an “L” that represents the customers initials. The “L” is 4 separate pieces that were cut out on a CNC router. The leaf carving is an onlay that was purchased. The flutes were made in shop and the corbels were carved by a carver that we have in shop. The top of the mantel actually has an

Arched doorway

This was my first attempt at building an arched doorway. The doorway is made of walnut and has a walnut burl veneer on the panels. The doorway is 8’ tall, 48” wide and 32” deep. It was built in the shop, trimmed out and finshed. Then it was transported to the jobsite, set in place and the casing installed. We made a template of the doorway after taking on-site and then made the arched casing on our cnc router. The achway itself was built after making a full sized jig, cutting the walnut to
